The Atherton Tablelands (also known as the Cairns Highlands) is 90kms south-west of Cairns ranges from 500m to 1280m above sea level and covers 620km².
Malanda is a quiet town located about 25kms southeast of Atherton. It resides in one of the wettest areas of the Atherton Tablelands, and hence is surrounded by pockets of rainforest and rolling hills covered with lush green grass.

Ravenshoe is located 147 kms from Cairns and takes approximately 2 hours drive. At 930 metres above sea level, Ravenshoe outranks Herberton by 15 metres as the highest town in Queensland.

Chillagoe is located 140km west of Mareeba, so if you are contemplating a visit be aware that the drive can take more than 3 hours through arid landscape and remote regions; however once you arrive a sense of relief coupled with the warm feeling of discovery overcomes you.
Atherton is just over an hours drive from Cairns and is central to a majority of tableland attractions.
Mareeba is less than one hour's drive west of Cairns, situated at the northern terminus of the Atherton Tablelands or Cairns Highlands if you prefer. Mareeba is a gateway town; from her hub travelers continue north to Cooktown, Weipa and the tip of Cape York, or along the Wheelbarrow Way into the Gulf Country.

Tolga is a charming country town that acts as an intersection between Lake Tinaroo, Mareeba and Atherton. It is an extremely fertile farming area that produces a range of crops such as fruit, potatoes, maize, sugar cane and peanuts. It is also a prime location for cattle grazing, dairy and deer farming.

The historical town of Yungaburra is centrally located between Lake Eacham, the Curtain Fig Tree, Lake Tinaroo and the town of Atherton. It is 720 metres above sea level and located 70kms inland from Cairns.
Lake Barrine is just 20 minutes drive from Yungaburra. Head towards the Gillies Range along the Gordonvale Atherton Road and you will see the signs. The Lake Barrine Tea House is an excellent place to sit down for lunch on the veranda overlooking the lake
Lake Eacham is about 10 minutes drive from Yungaburra heading towards the Gillies Range. Turn right at Wrights Creek Road. This lake is the most popular swimming and picnic destination for all of the Atherton Tablelands.

Lake Tinaroo is located at the top of the Gillies Range and can take just over an hour to reach form Cairns. the lake is also just 15 minutes northeast from Atherton, via the tiny township of Kairi. (Pronounced Kee-Rie) Driving from Cairns head South along the bruce highway and turn right at Gordonvale on to the Gillies Range.

Millaa Millaa is around 1 hour drive from Cairns and is located between Malanda & Ravenshoe. Home to some of the most photographed waterfalls in the world Millaa Millaa's waterfall circuit is a must see when in the Tableands.
At 915 metres above sea level. Herberton is one of the highest towns at the Atherton Tablelands, standing at 915 metres above sea level. It is 122 kms from Cairns with a population of approximately 1500. As a consequence, the forest around Herberton is dry and scrubby.
Kuranda is located just 20 Kilometres from Cairns. A 30-minute drive up the Kuranda Range is the fastest method of reaching the township. For a more scenic journey take the Scenic Train & Skyrail. Take a tip from the experts, leave your vehicle at home, visit Kuranda by completing a Train & Skyrail, round trip (in that order), you will certainly have no regrets only memories of a man made magical encounter with nature, in all her finery.
