About Tolga
Tolga is a charming country town that acts as an intersection between Lake Tinaroo, Mareeba and Atherton. It is an extremely fertile farming area that produces a range of crops such as fruit, potatoes, maize, sugar cane and peanuts. It is also a prime location for cattle grazing, dairy and deer farming.
Currently, Tolga is not a raging tourist hub. It is a small quiet town utilised largely by farmers and retirees, but it retains a distinct charm that makes it a lovely place to stop for a bite to eat. Tolga has a large horse racetrack, woodworks, post office, pub and primary school. It’s a great spot for travellers to stretch their legs and take in some crisp, fresh mountain air.
Development forecasts have predicted that Tolga may grow significantly in the next decade, as more people realise the prime positioning of the town in relation to attractions throughout the Atherton Tablelands. Tolga could be the next growth centre in the region, so keep your eyes focussed. The current population of Tolga is only 935.
