About Tablelands Regional Council
Tablelands Regional Council Vision
The Tablelands Regional Council’s vision for this shire is ‘a thriving region that embraces our natural, cultural and economic diversity’.
To achieve this, Council will:
- Give priority to the needs of the community who are the key stakeholders in terms of provision of services and facilities
- Create and support a variety of healthy, safe and vibrant lifestyle opportunities within the region
- Strengthen business and employment opportunities by encouraging and supporting development of industry throughout the region
- Continue to provide an open and transparent system of local governance to the community
Tableland Regional Council Community Services department provides the community with services that meet a broad range of needs. The delivery of services aims to promote physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Groups in the community that are marginalised or disadvantaged, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) families and people with a disability, are supported by government and non-government providers of community services within the Tableland region.
Lifestyle & Activities
Tablelands Regional Council covers an area of 11,000km2 on the Atherton Tablelands, and is home to some 26,000 people. The administrative hub of the Tablelands Regional Council area is Atherton, while a network of smaller villages interconnect across the region, each each with its own unique character. The Tablelands rise from 500-1100 metres above sea level, and it is this altitudinal variation which gives the Tablelands its cool tropical climate, some say the best climate in the world! There is a marked difference between seasons and between areas, from high rainfall mountains of the coastal ranges in the east, green dairy country to the south, and open savannah woodland to the west. The diversity in a small region is incredible which makes it a fascinating area to explore and in which to live.
